Sur Coastal city tour
Welcome to the Sur Coastal City Tour! As the capital of the Asj Sjarqiyah South region in northeastern Oman, Sur is a city with a rich history dating back to the 6th century. It was once a thriving center for trade with East Africa, and later came under Portuguese rule before being liberated by the Omani imam Nasir ibn Murshid.
Our first stop on the tour is the Dhow Ship Factory, where you can witness the traditional craft of building these wooden sailing vessels that have long been used for trade in the region. These days, demand for dhows is declining and only a few shipyards remain in operation along the western shore of the lagune.
Next, we’ll visit the Maritime Museum Fatah Al Khair to learn more about the history of Sur and its role in the region’s maritime trade. Here you’ll find displays of old maps, artifacts, and other exhibits that showcase the city’s past.
After the museum, we’ll take a ride on the Hanging Bridge, a unique feature of Sur that offers breathtaking views of the city and the surrounding area. The bridge is suspended above the Khor al-Batha lagune and provides a unique perspective on the city.
We’ll then make a photo stop at the Lighthouse of Sur (Al Ayjah), a historic beacon that has helped guide ships safely into the port for centuries.
After all the sightseeing, it’s time to take a break for lunch. We’ll stop at a local restaurant where you can enjoy a delicious meal and refuel for the rest of the tour.
Throughout the tour, you’ll be accompanied by an English speaking guide and will have the use of a private car (which can accommodate up to 4 guests). We’ll also provide a welcome amenity with dates, coffee, and wet wipes, as well as water and snacks (nuts or chips) to keep you refreshed and energized. The factory fees are also included in the tour price.
We hope you enjoy your time in Sur and all the sights and experiences it has to offer!
